Stanhope renews the rear living spaces of a grand heritage residence in Camberwell, within the City of Boroondara. The design integrates contemporary kitchen, dining and living areas with the existing dwelling, preserving its architectural character while establishing a stronger connection to the alfresco area and established gardens.

The rear spaces are organised to bring indoor living and outdoor entertaining into closer relationship. Views towards the garden and existing vegetation connect the interior with its setting, allowing the landscape to form part of the experience of the home. A reconfigured laundry and walk-in pantry support the kitchen, accommodating practical requirements within the broader layout.

Heritage considerations informed the design and planning process, with careful attention to how the alterations meet the original building and respond to the surrounding landscape. The completed work brings greater continuity between the home’s formal character, its everyday living spaces and the gardens beyond.
